The Pico-NES project is a compact and efficient emulator for the 8-bit NES, Dendy, and Famicom consoles, designed to run on the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller. It supports game selection from an SD card with folder navigation, original NES gamepads, USB controllers, PS/2 keyboards, and outputs video via HDMI or VGA depending on the hardware setup. With features like saving game states (snapshots), customizable palettes, and smooth 60 FPS gameplay, it delivers a nostalgic gaming experience with high-quality sound and performance. The project showcases the versatility of the RP2040 chip, enabling multiplayer support and hardware flexibility for tailored builds—all while utilizing affordable components.
